Andy Fox Recognized as 2026 Maui County Volunteer Hero

Friends of Haleakalā National Park is proud to share that longtime volunteer and leader Andy Fox has been recognized as a 2026 Volunteer Hero by the County of Maui Hands On Maui program.

Andy has been a steady and essential presence in FHNP’s service program for years, most recently serving as our Service Trip Coordinator and leading multiple multi-day backcountry trips in 2025. In that role, he guided volunteers through challenging conditions with a strong emphasis on safety, teamwork, and stewardship—values that are central to our work in Haleakalā National Park.

Through his leadership, volunteers have supported critical efforts including invasive species removal, native seed collection, and backcountry cabin and trail support. These contributions directly advance the protection and restoration of the park’s unique ecosystems and cultural landscapes.

Beyond the work itself, Andy embodies pilina. He brings people together—supporting new volunteers, mentoring future leaders, and building trust within our community and with our park partners. His calm, thoughtful approach and sense of humor help create an environment where people feel grounded, capable, and connected to place.

Andy’s recognition reflects not only his many hours of service, but the way he shows up—with aloha ʻāina, humility, and a deep sense of kuleana to Haleakalā.

Mahalo nui, Andy, for all that you do. We are grateful to walk this path with you.
