He Pouhana No Haleakalā,
A Support Pillar for Haleakalā
Friends of Hakeakalā National Park fosters strong relationships between Maui’s diverse communities (of both residents and visitors alike) and Haleakalā National Park through service, volunteerism, and education. We do this in order to preserve, protect and promote the ecological and cultural heritage of this special place.
Don Reeser (superintendent of Haleakalā National Park at the time) and Mary Evanson (a lifelong advocate for the environment) helped establish the Friends of Haleakalā National Park (FNHP) in 1996. The FNHP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Hawaii that supports the park and the National Park Service in their goals to preserve Haleakalā’s ecosystems, scenic character, and cultural and spiritual resources. The FNHP also aims to provide educational, recreational, and inspirational opportunities that are compatible with preserving these resources for future generations.
