SUMMARY:Overnight Service Trip - Kipahulu bunk house and tent site - April 2026
DESCRIPTION:Trip Leader :  Peter    peter@fhnp.org \n \n \n \n \n \n Kīpahulu Service Trip (Frontcountry)\nLevel: Easy – Car/tent campingLocation: Kīpahulu District\, Hāna\, Maui \nSpend the weekend immersed in the rainforest of Haleakalā’s Kīpahulu District. This is a frontcountry\, car-accessible trip with minimal hiking and maximum connection to place. \nVolunteers kōkua (assist) with projects like invasive weed removal\, loʻi (taro patch) maintenance\, and clearing trail corridors. The work is meaningful and the pace allows for plenty of time to connect\, with each other\, with the ʻāina\, and with the park. Shared meals and social time in the evenings offer a chance to unwind and build community with like-minded individuals. \nThis 2-night tent camping trip is a wonderful way to give back and deepen your relationship to Haleakalā. You’ll gain hands-on experience and learn more about native plants and species unique to Hawaiʻi and this special part of the park in areas many visitors never get to explore in depth. \nFHNP can assist with gear loans if requested in advance. \nTrip Notes: \n\nYou must be 18 or older to participate.\nSome meals and carpooling are coordinated by trip leaders.\nAdvance signup is required; space is limited.\nClean boots and gear before the trip to prevent the spread of Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death (ROD) and invasive species.

SUMMARY:Service Day in the Nursery – April 2026
DESCRIPTION:Become a Caretaker of the Parkʻs Plant Nursery!\nFriends of Haleakala National Park is offering a one-day service activity at the park’s plant nursery in the Haleakala Summit District on the first Tuesday of each month.  Volunteers will help park horticulturist with jobs involving caring for the rare\, endemic plants being propagated\, such as transplanting\, weeding\, cleaning and preparing seeds for storage or planting\, and some pot washing.  The park recycles pots which have to be carefully cleaned to prevent the spread of plant diseases. There may sometimes be some out planting\, but most of the service work is done inside\, and participants can drive up to the location of the work. Reservations are required due to group size limitations.  To show your interest in volunteering\, click on the button below\, and fill out the form provided.  You will be contacted with details.  Participants should bring water\, lunch and snacks\, and their own gloves if desired. The park will provide other tools. Wear sturdy shoes\, and in case of out planting work\, bring a hat and sunscreen. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Join Us Today
